Lancaster, Mass. U.S.A. (October 24, 2014) — McCue & Associates (M&A) recently announced that they have been providing pro bono marketing and public relations services to the Lancaster Commission on Disability (LCOD) to help to create awareness and education surrounding the importance of accessibility for the disabled in the Lancaster community.

M&A conceptualized, created and produced a comprehensive program including the following components:

• Created a brochure to help educate the community on the mission of and services provided by the LCOD.
• Created flyers to educate the community about and recruit volunteers for a town-wide accessibility survey.
• Created an Accessibility Awareness Month campaign, which included:
• A kick-off event featuring a wheel chair walk with town officials, music on the Town Green., information table on disability / resources, safety & disaster response / support information from Lancaster EMT officials, and a state-of-the-art accessible van.
  • A banner to be displayed on the Town Green.
  • A month-long accessibility challenge to town businesses with Top Three awards presented at the end of the month.
  • A presentation by the Nurse Carpenter of SolaceRNovation on how you can remodel your home to remain at home as long as possible along with tips on hiring and working with a contractor.
  • Several news releases were written and media outreach to regional editors helped promote the event.
  • An ad on the local cable TV station to raise awareness of the campaign.

“While the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has played a huge role in advocating for the disabled in our society, we still have a long way to go. Increased awareness and education on the subject is a vital tool for enlightening people on how difficult it still is for those with mobility and other impairments,” said Mr. Michael McCue, President of McCue & Associates and Chairperson of the Lancaster COD. “Our Awareness Month campaign helped create more exposure on the subject, which will ultimately help residents in Lancaster live more full and productive lives with dignity. To our knowledge, we are the first town in Massachusetts, or perhaps any state to officially proclaim an Accessibility Awareness Month. We are blazing a trail for a very worthy cause,” added McCue.
