Increasing sales of SineWave® band saw blades

Challenge
Simonds developed a unique band saw blade manufacturing technology by changing the geometry of the back edge of the blade, thereby creating a rocking motion in the cut to enhance saw productivity. Although this “SineWave®” capability existed for several years, Simonds felt the message of the product and their brand had not reached the market that could use it the most and needed to be stated in a different way.
Solution
In 2016, McCue & Associates developed a SineWave campaign to generate more awareness, interest and ultimately, sales. Playing off of the product’s unique rocking/ sawing action, a campaign theme of “SineWave Rocks” was born. In a concentrated, 4 month flight, the following elements were deployed:
1. Advertising
Full Page Ad highlighting the theme, along with a material example showing sawing time savings.
2. Publicity
Placed SineWave end-user testimonial article in key issue of same campaign media.
3. Video with Rock Music
Created and produced a Sales Video, featuring SineWave benefits and performance on various difficult-to-cut materials compared to conventional band saw blades.
4. Direct Marketing
Created and produced a series of three Electronic Ads, offering a performance guarantee and link to the video. Ads were blasted to production sawing prospects in metal service centers.
5. Sales Promotion
Provided sales incentive concept the offered free dinner and rock concert tickets for the salesperson/ distributor with the most SineWave sales.

Results
Sales of SineWave products doubled during and shortly after the campaign, requiring significantly increased production to support the renewed demand.
